A lesson designed to cover the PSHE Association’s guidance concerning becoming a confident user of the NHS and accessing appropriate sources of help. It also covers how to avoid inappropriate sources of help (TikTok / Instagram health influencers / faith healers / miracle pill-pushers and so-called health gurus). Students will explore case studies where people have taken bad advice from illegitimate sources and had poor outcomes as well as investigate why self-diagnosis is such a problem online. This is all new content (2024) and all editable. This detailed 23 page PSHE / Citizenship workbook has been created for the new PSHE 2020 Statutory Guidance and focuses on prejudice and discrimination - in this case racism and the Black Lives Matter movement. 1 hour - 90 min, fully resourced PSHE lesson suitable for KS3 all returning to school after the coronavirus pandemic. The lesson allows students firstly to share their feelings and concerns about the lockdown time, the disease itself and missing school. They then investigate how they can support each other, especially in consideration of their mental health over the next few weeks. The second half on the lesson has more of a practical focus about how diseases spread, hygiene and how students can protect themselves. The R rate is explained as well as why schools have opened and the challenges that may have to be faced. The lesson has been left editable and is filled with engaging, well differentiated and fun activities. It is designed to be ‘no prep’, so you can just pick it up and use it, although it is still adaptable should you wish to. Who are EC Resources? This free 9 page audit grid has been created to go alongside the free EC Resources PSHE and RSE planning pack, to show additional coverage of SMSC and British Values. It was created by a school using the document as part of their work to attain the SMSC Quality Mark and is shared with kind permission. The word document version has been left editable, however, so anyone can also use it, filling it in with their own coverage against the different standards. The document is particularly useful for those using the EC Resources Complete KS3 or Complete KS4 packs as it was created to complement these.
